Aluminium is the ideal material for carbon dioxide storage. While steel is the typical metal used for CO2 storage, there various properties that make aluminium useful (and ultimately better than steel).

1. Corrosion / Rust Resistance:

   Aluminum has a high resistance to corrosion. One of the downsides to steel bottles is the risk of rust. Most steel carbon dioxide storage bottles come with a residual pressure device (RPD) to prevent water from entering the inside of the cylinder. When these devices are missing the cylinder’s stamp date is halved and the bottle is at rust of internal rusting.

2. Lightweight:

   Aluminum is lightweight compared to many other metals, which can be beneficial in applications where weight is a concern, such as in portable or mobile CO2 capture systems. This is valuable when it comes to carting many of the larger cylinders to be swapped or refilled. It turns what would otherwise require a trolley or special transport into a single person job.

3. Thermal Conductivity:

   Aluminum has good thermal conductivity, which means it can help with heat dissipation in carbon dioxide storage systems, particularly in applications where temperature control is important.
